The Brink of Winter

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 10, 2009, 10:57 AM
How can it be nearly mid-November when the weather still feels like October?
Time to get my winter garden planted. Time to prepare for going back to school. Time to prepare for signing a book contract and writing writing writing every day. Time for all hell to break loose.
The days are darker, but it seems like a beginning to me.
I'll post my latest mask-making effort on here soon, probably with a snapshot of dubious quality. Stay tuned. The crows have come home to roost.

I'm a jack of all trades, but I'm mostly a writer. Perhaps I'll post some odds and ends of my writings here, later. For now I am just posting some old photography and some new arts and crafts. I do leather work, pyrography, and wire jewelry, to name a few of my hobbies. I also dabble in watercolors once in a while, and perhaps I'll learn some technique if I hang around here enough. Critiques welcome!

Thank you the fav......I use stainless steel for the armature, then Sculpy Premo. Good luck....j
:iconbadpooka:
Nice. I thought it was polymer. What gage stainless steel? I had trouble with my armatures breaking through or creating air pockets when I was experimenting with Sculpy. I switched to twisting up aluminum foil, which seemed to work and gave the clay something to cling to. I should play with the stuff again. I quit when a larger piece I was making got accidently mashed. I couldn't get the face right again and was really discouraged. Anyway, You do beautiful work. Thanks for the reply!

I use all gages. It depends on what I am trying create. I also use all gages of wire, to hold the stainless, then I epoxy all the joints for even more strength. For bases I have discovered that ATV, bicycle, motorcycle sprockets are great and cannot be any stronger. There's a lot of drilling, hammering, and basically blacksmithing to hold everything together. Aluminum foil is somewhat ok, but the steel cant be beat. When I am finished with the armature, I can pick it up from any part, and it was as solid as a rock, then the fun begins. I can see a project completely finished in my mind, then, I reverse engineer the whole piece and have nothing but piles of steel and clay, on the table in front of me, and I would "build" my art. NO paint ever, just colored polymer clay...Good luck on your work my friend.....j
P.S. Be prepared to be disappointed often, it is hard creativity and you will get frustrated. When that happens (and it will) put on some good music, close your eyes, and dream......soon the answers will come to you, rather than forcing yourself to find them. You'll be quite surprised, and quite happy with the results...Also, if you can, use your own creative spirit that is sometimes hiding inside of your heart, it's there, use it, and see what becomes of you and your artwork.....j

Thank you for such a detailed and encouraging reply. That's really lovely of you to be so thoughtful and to take time out of your day for this. I'll try again. Thanks so very much.
